This photographic compendium showcases nearly 200 images documenting acentury of often unimaginable challenges of disorder, disease, and injury fromthe 1850s to the mid-1940s. Selected from the Mutter Museum's collection ofhistoric medical photography, these incredible images are oftentimesdisquieting and deeply poignant. They depict real people living out theirdestinies, many with little hope of cure or the alleviation that might beoffered by modern medicine.
