"These employers are among the best in the nation," said Marci Koblenz, Center for Companies That Care cofounder and president. "They have remained engaged with their employees and communities to understand their needs and, in most cases, to meet them. When times have gotten tough, these employers have increased communications and employee involvement. They clearly realize how values-driven practices enable their success."

Honor Roll employers are selected for their adherence to all 10 characteristics of a company that cares. Each Honor Roll organization shows its steadfast commitment to employees and actively serves communities. Two key components of the selection process are a written application and employee survey results. "We are honored to be recognized by the Center for Companies That Care for an eighth consecutive year," said Irene Thompson, UHC president and chief executive officer. "UHC staff and leaders share an ongoing commitment to making a positive impact on our community and to achieving a healthy work/life balance. It is rewarding to note that these are the qualities for which UHC was named to the 2011 Honor Roll."
