"We know that moms-to-be have many questions about their pregnancies, andhow they take care of themselves during their pregnancies plays an importantrole to help ensure they have healthy babies," said Mitch Collins, regionaldirector for UniCare. "We want to make local moms feel special today, but wealso want to make sure they leave with plenty of information they can use whentheir babies arrive."

One lucky participant will receive the grand prize of a new crib andmattress, donated by a local retailer.

Educational presentations will be given by a variety of community-basedorganizations, including the Charleston Police Department, The GabrielProject, Health Check, Thomas Memorial Hospital and Upper Kanawha ValleyStarting Points.

The event is also an opportunity for attending UniCare members to becomemore familiar with their local CRC. Part of a unique community-based modeldesigned and developed by UniCare, the CRC delivers individualized health carecoordination to its members and their communities.

Centers are staffed by dedicated teams offering local residents andproviders a facility that can design health programs and services to addressspecific community needs, such as disease-management programs for asthma ordiabetes.

"The CRC model provides so many benefits to our members and really allowsUniCare to connect within an individual community," said Collins. "We hopethis event and others in the future will bring more awareness to the CRC andall of the great things happening here."

The UniCare baby shower begins at 11 a.m. and is scheduled to last until 2p.m. UniCare's CRC is located at 1207 Quarrier Street in downtown Charleston.

WellPoint, Inc., the parent company of UniCare, serves more than twomillion Medicaid managed care members in 14 states.
