HOUSTON, Sept. 15 US Oncology, Inc. the innovative healthcare company supporting the nation's foremost cancer treatment and research network, today announced that it has been named to the 2009 InformationWeek 500, an annual listing of the nation's most innovative users of business technology. US Oncology was recognized for the establishment of an enterprise-wide CRM platform.
Working with Deloitte Consulting, US Oncology developed PatientRM as a cost effective technology-based solution utilizing a single Siebel-based platform. The software serves four unique patient-centric businesses: AccessMED(TM), Innovent Oncology, OncologyRx Care Advantage(TM) and Oncology Reimbursement Solutions, and has the capability of collecting, managing and analyzing data on hundreds of thousands of similar and dissimilar patient cases from across the country. The program is also useful in ensuring quality and effective cancer care management throughout the course of a patient's treatment.
PatientRM is one part of an integrated technology system US Oncology is implementing that includes the oncology-specific electronic health record system, iKnowMed. iKnowMed provides US Oncology network physicians with centralized access to comprehensive patient information. It also provides a platform for US Oncology's evidence-based medicine guidelines, Level I Pathways, physician-developed, pathways that assist physicians in reducing treatment variability and resulting costs. iKnowMed also gives physicians automatic alerts to warn of potential medication conflicts and can match patients to appropriate clinical trials. Ultimately, US Oncology will expand upon iKnowMed to offer a portal that will include social media activities such as blogs and discussion groups, and will provide an online community where patients can receive information on their care and treatment.
"US Oncology has always taken great pride in using leading edge technology to help advance cancer care. We are very pleased to be recognized for this effort to enhance the quality of care and effectiveness of patient services," said Bruce Broussard, Chairman and CEO of US Oncology.
Each US Oncology business unit can use the PatientRM system to address its unique needs. It is integral to the Innovent Oncology Patient Support Services and Advance Care Planning programs by maintaining evidence-based education materials and supporting ongoing nursing interventions, enhancing care for all patients serviced. Specialty drug regimens and compliance can be tracked for Oncology RX Care Advantage(TM), US Oncology's national oral oncology specialty pharmacy. Financial counselors, practice administrators, nurses and providers can access reimbursement and patient support services through the AccessMED(TM) call center, or through various innovative 24/7 self-service Web portal that support individual products.
PatientRM performs the following functions:
"The PatientRM solution is unique in its ability to use the information gathered to enhance care impacted by all our customers in the industry, including researchers, manufacturers, providers, payers, and legislators," said Todd Schonherz, senior vice president and chief information officer at US Oncology.
