Developed by a Canadian inventor, the HydrAid® BioSand gravity-flow filter is manufactured by Cascade Engineering and distributed by Triple Quest. The water filter is made of food-grade BPA-free plastic, weighs about eight pounds and requires no electricity. The filter removes parasites, bacteria and viruses from contaminated water, making it safer to drink. The lack of clean drinking water is the second leading cause of death among children under five.

"Providing clean drinking water is essential to battling disease and death in developing countries," said Christina Keller, business unit leader, Triple Quest. "World Water Day reminds us of the need to get sustainable, clean water systems in place throughout the developing countries. This system allows families in-home access to clean water for cooking, washing and drinking for an entire decade."

Rotary International District 6290 partnered with Triple Quest as part of the organization's commitment to worldwide community service," said Jim Van Dyke, president of Rotary 6290. The Rotary project is called Thirsting to Serve – Rotary District 6290. "In addition to our 60 clubs, this program is now available for other Rotarians around the world to use as their service project."
