ATLANTA and NASHVILLE, Tenn., June 8 Webmedx, the third largest medical transcription service provider in the U.S. and a premier supplier of clinical documentation solutions, today announced that University of Kentucky Healthcare (UK HealthCare) in Lexington, Ky. has signed an agreement for the company's medical transcription services and QualityAnalytics(TM) data mining solution. Already implemented in two of the three UK HealthCare campuses, the organization is one of the first healthcare providers in the nation to fully utilize medical transcriptions' new capability: mining discrete data from a transcribed report.

"I had heard reference of data mining capabilities from other vendors, but this is the first time I've seen it in action," mentions Carol Steltenkamp, M.D., CMIO of UK HealthCare.

Webmedx creates customized queries and mines discrete, structured data from the physician's dictated, transcribed reports stored within their system. Termed Narradata(TM), the information is combined with data mined from the organization's EHR to meet core measures reporting requirements. At UK HealthCare, ejection fraction results for acute myocardial infarction and congestive heart failure patients will be the first Narradata element to be mined.

"Not every type of report or physician note is suitable for template-based documentation within our EHR, so dictation still plays a role," adds Steltenkamp.

Webmedx helps in the transition by giving physicians a choice in how they document notes and reports: physician self-completion with front-end speech, medical transcriptionist editing with back-end speech, or traditional transcription.

Webmedx medical transcription technology and services will be phased-in at a third campus in June 2010.

"The first two phases of our implementation went very smoothly and Webmedx technical support was extremely responsive and accommodating for our complex technology environment," mentions Brenda Adams, RHIT, CCS, CPC-H, Associate Director of Enterprise Transcription, UK HealthCare. "They are very easy to work with."

"UK HealthCare chose Webmedx based on our long-standing reputation for exceptional customer support, our ability to mine discrete clinical data from transcribed reports, and three physician documentation options within a single, physician-friendly user interface: speech, voice and traditional transcription," mentions Chris Cashwell, Senior Vice President of Client Development, Webmedx.

Awarded Best in KLAS for Outsourced Transcription in the 2009 Top 20 Best in KLAS Awards: Software & Professional Services report, Webmedx receives high marks for report quality and transcription turn-around-time.
