UF/Sid Martin Biotechnology Institute Brings in 10 New Resident Companies in Six Months

The University of Florida biotech incubator continues to expand on its 21-year history of growing and launching life sciences companies.

ALACHUA, Fla., Nov. 16, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Sid Martin Biotechnology Institute, the leading biotechnology incubator at the University of Florida, is having a great year. The institute has welcomed 10 innovative companies into the incubator program in a six-month period. It is at 95 percent capacity level and has accumulated an additional $37,000 in sponsorship funding to date in 2016.

Among the new companies that have joined the institute are:

  • Assembly Biosciences, Inc. – new oral therapeutics for treating hepatitis B 
  • Curtiss Healthcare, Inc. – Salmonella vaccine development 
  • AlphaChem Innovations, Inc. –  marketing insecticide for Varroa mites 
  • Amend Surgical – novel orthobiologics in bone graft repair

With a successful track record nurturing and accelerating sustainable biotech and biosciences businesses, the Sid Martin Biotechnology Institute helps to grow the economy of both the region and the state, creating jobs and producing substantial investment. Institute companies have attracted more than $1.6 billion in M&A activity, including $1.2 billion in the last seven years.
