MALVERN, Pa., Oct. 16, /PRNewswire/ -- Arlington Medical Resources (AMR), a provider of premier market intelligence for the pharmaceutical and diagnostic imaging industries, finds that the total number of patients undergoing CT angiography (CTA) of the chest in the second quarter of 2008 has increased by 56 percent when compared to the second quarter of 2007. CTA is a non-invasive medical test that takes pictures of the blood vessels to help diagnose conditions in the neurovascular, chest and pulmonary, peripheral vasculature, abdomen and pelvis and coronary arteries.

The newly released edition of the Angiography Market Guide also finds that Italy performed the most non-cardiac CTA procedures of the chest in the second quarter of 2008 when compared to Germany, France, Italy, UK and Spain.
"Non-cardiac CTAs of the chest continue to show strong growth in the European markets," stated Anna Fisher, analyst at AMR. "A CTA is usually ordered in emergency rooms to check for life threatening conditions such as pulmonary embolism or aortic dissections."
