Top Obama administration officials to hold rural health community forum

WASHINGTON, July 17 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, U.S. Department of Labor Secretary Hilda L. Solis, U.S. Department of Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack and U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric K. Shinseki will host a rural health community forum in St. John Parish, La., as part of the Obama administration's Rural Tour.

At the 90-minute community forum, the four Cabinet secretaries will share information about the federal government's efforts to rebuild and revitalize rural America, listen to local residents about what is going on in rural America and discuss solutions to the challenges facing our communities.

The Obama administration officials will be joined by U.S. Sen. Mary L. Landrieu and U.S. Rep. Charlie Melancon.

In June, President Obama announced that top officials from his administration, including Cabinet secretaries, would be fanning out across the nation to hold a series of discussions on how we can strengthen rural America. Rural Tour events already have been held in Pennsylvania, New Hampshire and Michigan. Future events are currently scheduled in Alaska, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Carolina, Wisconsin and Ohio.
