SAN FRANCISCO, Feb. 21, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- ToolBox Genomics (TBG) today announced the launch of its Health Action
"Armed with 23andMe results, many consumers want to better understand how their genes and lifestyle interact and are seeking clear and personalized guidance," said Erika Gray, PharmD and chief medical officer. "Our goal is to deliver personalized, actionable, evidence-based lifestyle, fitness and diet recommendations at a reasonable price."
Recommendations in the Health Action Report have been reviewed by a team of health care providers, nutritionists, geneticists and fitness experts. They are based on the most up-to-date scientific information on the links between genetic biomarkers and food, fitness and lifestyle interventions. In addition to the Health Action Report, customers will receive a one-year subscription that includes updates to their reports based on the latest scientific research.
"As scientific knowledge grows and evolves, it is possible to move from general advice like 'eat more vegetables' to more personalized advice like 'your genetic profile shows that you may be predisposed to folate deficiencies and you should eat more folate-rich vegetables like spinach, watercress, chard and broccoli.' Some people may also need a folate supplement to help them meet their nutritional needs," said Dr. Gray.
TBG will donate 20 percent of the product cost (about $10) to charity through a partnership with Bright Funds.
To receive a Health Action Report, customers can visit ToolBoxGenomics.com and follow the easy-to-understand instructions to upload their 23andMe data. A personalized report will be produced promptly and can be printed or shared by email.
In addition to the launch of its own genetic assay, TBG plans to launch a professional version of its Health Action Report to be used by health care providers with patients.
