Thomson Reuters Chosen to Provide Analytic Services to Help Kentucky Uncover Medicaid Fraud and Waste

ANN ARBOR, Mich., June 27 The Healthcarebusiness of Thomson Reuters has been selected to assist in providing dataanalysis services for Kentucky's Medicaid fraud detection program.

Thomson Reuters will provide these services as a subcontractor to HealthCare Excel -- a healthcare utilization management and quality improvementorganization. Health Care Excel is providing Surveillance and UtilizationReview Services (SURS) to the Kentucky Medicaid program.

The contract was awarded following a competitive procurement process. Itwill extend for 27 months if all options are exercised.

All states are required to ensure proper and efficient administration oftheir Medicaid program through SURS. This includes the analysis of medicalclaims and healthcare delivery patterns to identify unusual billing practices-- such as inconsistent, excessive, duplicative, or otherwise suspiciousclaims.

Twelve states use Thomson Reuters' capabilities for fraud detection.Thomson Reuters also provides fraud detection services for a variety ofMedicare and Medicaid programs nationally.
