LOS ANGELES, July 2 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Performances by Sandra Bernhard and Idina Menzel were among the entertainment highlights of Trevor New York, the eighth annual New York City gala benefiting The Trevor Project, the non-profit organization that operates the only nationwide, around-the-clock crisis and suicide prevention helpline for gay and questioning youth. The June 30 event at The Mandarin Oriental Hotel raised nearly $175,000 for The Trevor Project and boasted a star-studded guest list.

The evening was hosted by Alec Mapa, host of Logo's Transamerican Love Story and a recurring character on Ugly Betty. Heather Matarazzo (Welcome to the Dollhouse), Stephen Schwartz (Wicked) and George Takei (Star Trek) were among the celebrities in attendance. The Trevor Project presented its annual honoree awards to Alan Cumming, who received The Trevor Hero Award, and MTV's network, The N, which received The Trevor Commitment Award.

Funds raised at the event, chaired by Brian Dorsey and Joel Flatow, help finance The Trevor Helpline, which receives thousands of calls each year from gay and questioning youth, their family members, educators and friends. Suicide is one of the top three killers of young people and gay and questioning youth are four times more likely to attempt suicide than their heterosexual peers. Every day, The Trevor Project saves lives through its free and confidential helpline, its Web site and its educational materials.
Trevor New York, which was attended by 380 guests, was principally sponsored by Barefoot Wine, Extreme Drinks and Sellers Dorsey.
