BRIARCLIFF MANOR, N.Y., Dec. 15 The International Society for Medical Publication Professionals (ISMPP) today announced that the professional society is continuing to accept abstracts for its 6th Annual Meeting, which is being held in Arlington, VA, April 19-21, 2010. This marks the first time that the society is encouraging non-members to join the organization to submit an abstract to this increasingly important event. The submission deadline is 12 AM EST, January 15, 2010. For submission details, please refer to the abstract submission guidelines at http://www.ISMPP.org/pdf/author_guidelines.pdf.

This year's program theme is "Delivering Value and Driving Advocacy in Medical Publications" and offers numerous possibilities for topics. Please note that abstract submissions are not limited to these topics alone. The society encourages authors to think about their successes and challenges as publications planning professionals and to consider submitting an abstract that will be of interest to others in this growing field. Feedback from the current ISMPP membership indicates that case studies and research supported by surveys are of keen interest to this sector.

As in all past years, ISMPP's Abstract Review Subcommittee will review every submitted abstract via a blinded, peer-review process. Abstracts will be selected based on the relevance to the publication professional's role or to the theme of the 6th Annual Meeting. All accepted abstracts will be published in a special supplement to the indexed journal Current Medical Research & Opinion (CMRO), and this special supplement of CMRO will be made available to all Annual Meeting attendees in addition to the publication's regular circulation. A small number of abstracts determined to have particularly compelling data will be selected for oral presentation; all other accepted abstracts will be for poster presentations. Authors will be notified in February 2010 if their abstract has been selected for poster or oral presentation. And, as was done last year, the Abstract Review Subcommittee will select one top-ranking poster in three categories - Best in Best Practices, Best in Original Research, and Best in Visual Communication - which will be announced at the Annual Meeting.
