CARPINTERIA, Calif., Feb. 12 The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (www.CDC.gov) reported that heart disease is America's leading cause of death. In 2009, an estimated 785,000 Americans will have a new heart-related coronary attack, and about 470,000 will have a recurrent attack.
During February, designated American Heart Month, thousands of people nationwide focus on education and provide information about heart disease. The International Sports Sciences Association (ISSA) -- the only nationally accredited fitness organization that educates and certifies personal trainers -- is in full support.
This month, ISSA certified personal trainers nationwide are making an extra effort to help people fight the battle against heart disease. Additionally, ISSA strongly recommends that individuals implement the following:
These steps reduce the risk of coronary heart disease and control factors that put people at greater risk for heart attack. People who have had a heart attack can also work to reduce their risk of future events.
