The special Alzheimer's Awareness online feature (http://www.healthcentral.com/alzheimers/alzheimers-awareness-month.html) will provide tips on how you can spot the early warning signs of Alzheimer's in a loved one or yourself. The feature will also highlight the voices of Alzheimer's caregivers, who talk about the challenges of caring for Alzheimer's patients as well as "A Day in the Life of a Dementia Sufferer," a new blog authored by a recently diagnosed vascular dementia sufferer.

Alzheimer's is a disease that is already affecting a large portion of the population, with 2.4 million Americans over the age of 61 currently diagnosed with the disease. OurAlzheimer's hopes to both raise awareness about the disease and to educate the young and the old about diagnosis, treatment and care for those living with Alzheimer's.

"As the baby boomer generation continues to age, the incidence of Alzheimer's will increase dramatically, as will the need for in-depth, reliable information," said Chris Schroeder, CEO and President of The HealthCentral Network. "The individuals who comprise OurAlzheimers.com have unique perspectives that contribute to Alzheimer's Awareness Month's goal: To make the rest of the world understand what it's like to live with or have a relative living with this disease."

OurAlzheimers.com won honors from the Spring/Summer 2007 World Wide Web Health Awards, which recognize the best health information Web sites for consumers and professionals. The site received a Merit award in the category of Patient Education Information.
