In Downward Economy Non-Profit Healthcare Coverage Referral Organization Takes Aim at those in Dire Need

LARAMIE, Wyo., Nov. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- In response to current economic conditions and with unemployment rates on the rise, The CoverMe Foundation (CMF), a non-profit healthcare coverage referral organization seeks to offer solutions to those lacking healthcare coverage. According to the U.S. Department of Labor, over 240,000 jobs have been lost as of October 2008, totaling nearly 1.2 million jobs for this year alone. The national unemployment rate is currently the highest it has been in almost 15 years at 6.5 percent. A rise in the nation's unemployment rate by one percent is projected to increase the number of uninsured by 1.1 million. These numbers will continue to increase as people lose their jobs and as the number of individuals and families covered by employer-based plans drop.

"We know that the loss of a job can quickly translate into the loss of health benefits for most people," notes The CoverMe Foundation's Founder and President Alec Shea. "Our foundation is available to provide support to the uninsured as they transition during this period of their lives to the next."

The stressed economy can also force families to cut back on healthcare spending because of the belief that available healthcare coverage is too expensive. These cutbacks can lead to higher spending down the road. Many uninsured individuals remain without healthcare coverage because they are not aware of services and resources that are readily available to help them receive the assistance they need.

The CoverMe Foundation understands the effect of the economic downturn on people's healthcare coverage and has dedicated itself to reducing the number of uninsured in the nation. CMF assists and educates applicants through the entire placement process and also social service information to those in need.
