The Aussie mom, who lost 150 lbs by walking laps around the humble clothesline in her Melbourne backyard, has been overwhelmed by the response from heartland Americans to her unique weight loss story.

"I am delighted Americans have reached out to me, but I am not surprised so many people need help because Americans are eating themselves to death. I was shocked at the eating habits of Americans during my travels."

The Melbourne mother of two launched her book on NBC's top rated morning news show, The Today Show, and appeared on her own billboard in New York's famous Times Square.

Within 15 minutes of The Today Show segment, Gatt was inundated with e-mails from Americans desperate for help losing weight. She now plans to open her first US, not-for-profit weight loss support group in May.

"I was particularly stunned to see patrons at Disneyland lining up to hire scooters so they didn't have to walk - that is so lazy."

The launch of THE CLOTHESLINE DIET in the United States is a remarkable achievement for Gatt who left school at 14 because she was bullied about her weight. At 26 years old, she weighed almost 300lbs, was unable to walk to her letterbox, unable to play with her children and suffered dangerously high blood pressure. She hated herself so much she would spit at herself in the mirror each day.

Today, having shed half her body weight by following a commonsense diet plan she devised herself, and walking laps around the clothesline in her backyard, the inspirational weight loss mom is turning her attention to helping others from every corner of the globe, achieve a new life.

"Obesity knows no borders. I'm not a doctor or a dietician, I'm just a mum who made my dream come true and if I can achieve my goal weight, anyone can."

Approximately 127 million adults in the US are overweight, 60 million obese and 9 million severely obese. (Source: American Obesity Organization.)
