Kellogg predicts a very smooth transition. “We have made several organizational and strategic changes over the past year to maximize our ability to exceed our customers’ expectations in today’s rapidly changing healthcare environment,” says Kellogg, “so most of the major changes are already behind us.”

Pope echoes those words: “I have been blessed beyond measure to be a part of this great company for nearly four decades, and I step down with complete peace of mind that the timing is perfect for this transition. In recent months, we have taken many steps to improve and strengthen our company in the face of the nation’s economic storms and the uncertainties in our industry. We have excellent leadership in place and we are well positioned for the future.”

Kellogg, currently the company’s Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, came to Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama 28 years ago as Vice President and Chief Actuary. He has served as a senior officer for the last 12 years and was named Executive Vice President in 2002. Kellogg currently serves on the Boards of the Birmingham Area Chapter of the American Red Cross and the Greater Alabama Council of the Boy Scouts of America. He also serves as an officer of the Business Council of Alabama and as Treasurer of the United Way of Central Alabama.

As part of this transition, Blue Cross also announced that its Board elected Tim Kirkpatrick as the company’s new Executive Vice President. Kirkpatrick, currently Senior Vice President, has been with the company for 33 years, including the past 10 years as a senior officer.
