In response to AmerisourceBergen's demands during recent contractnegotiations for workers at the Kent, Washington distribution center,AmerisourceBergen employees will rally tomorrow outside the 64th Avenuedistribution center to demand a fair contract settlement. They will also callon AmerisourceBergen's new president to work with employees to improvemanagement and working conditions at the facility.
The workers, represented by Teamsters Local 117, say they are askingAmerisourceBergen to honor the significant sacrifices they have made to helpthe company become one of the most successful pharmaceutical distributors inthe Northwest. Union representatives report that, during ongoing negotiations,AmerisourceBergen has threatened employees with the closure of the Kentfacility.
The company's latest bargaining demands include a discriminatory paysystem based on management favoritism that would move away from an industrystandard of hourly wage increases, and the right to subcontract work to lower-paying facilities outside the Kent community.
