TFAH to Testify at Congressional HELP Committee Hearing on Prevention and Public Health on Dec. 10
The hearing will be held at 10 AM in room 192 of the Dirksen Senate Office Building.
"TFAH believes that a strong public health system and public policies focused on disease prevention should be a cornerstone of a health reform plan," Levi will testify. He will highlight seven points related to prevention and health reform, including that:
Trust for America's Health is a non-profit, non-partisan organization dedicated to saving lives by protecting the health of every community and working to make disease prevention a national priority. www.healthyamericans.org
-- Universal, quality coverage and access to health care are critical to protecting and promoting the health of Americans. -- Investment in both community-based and clinical prevention is critical to ensuring that universal coverage is as cost-effective as possible. -- Stable and reliable funding for core public health functions and community-based prevention is essential. -- A national prevention plan that harnesses the potential of existing federal programs across the government is long overdue. -- The public health workforce must be strengthened to maximize the potential of public health to contribute to better health and lower health care costs. -- The concept of quality assurance and evidence-based interventions should be extended to all public health programs, including community-based prevention. -- A reformed health care system must be prepared to react to and mitigate the consequences of a public health emergency.
