WASHINGTON, Nov. 23 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Nancy G. Brinker, founding chair of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation, will address the controversy over new federal breast cancer screening recommendations at a Speakers Newsmakers press conference in the Holeman Lounge at 12:00 p.m. on Mon., Nov. 23.

Brinker, a breast cancer survivor and leader of the global breast cancer movement, will challenge the just-released guidelines by the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force that suggest self breast examinations and annual mammograms for women in their 40s are unnecessary. She will also discuss the need to improve screening procedures, especially in vulnerable populations.
Komen for the Cure is considered the world's largest breast cancer charity. The grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and activists has raised more than $1 billion for research, education, and health services and provides funding for more than 1,900 education, awareness, and screening programs.
This year, President Barack Obama awarded Brinker with the Presidential Medal of Freedom for her work. She was named Goodwill Ambassador for Cancer Control for the UN's World Health Organization. She was U.S. Chief of Protocol for the George W. Bush administration from 2007-2009, and she served as U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of Hungary from 2001-2003.
