Sunrise Senior Living Appoints Glyn Aeppel and David Fuente to its Board

MCLEAN, Va., Aug. 19 Sunrise Senior Living, Inc.(NYSE: SRZ) announced today that it has added two new independent directors toits board of directors effective August 18. Glyn Aeppel, board member andexecutive vice president of Acquisitions and Development of Loews Hotels andDavid Fuente, director and former chairman and CEO of Office Depot, Inc., havebeen appointed to the class of directors whose term of office expires atSunrise's 2008 annual meeting of stockholders. Ms. Aeppel and Mr. Fuente willserve on the board's Audit Committee and Compensation Committee, respectively.With these additions, Sunrise's board consists of 11 directors, 8 of whom areindependent.

Ms. Aeppel, 49, joined Loews Hotels in early 2006 as executive vicepresident of Acquisitions and Development and a member of their board. Sheleads the company's worldwide growth through corporate and asset acquisitions,joint ventures and management contracts. She also oversees select ground-upmixed-use developments and actively structures and finances the company's realestate transactions. Ms. Aeppel has more than 20 years of experience inproperty acquisitions, development and financing, and previously supportedthese areas for companies such as Fairmont Hotels and Resorts, Le MeridienHotels and Resorts, Interstate Hotels Company, Holiday Inn Worldwide andMarriott.

Mr. Fuente, 62, served as chairman and CEO of Office Depot, Inc. from1987, one year after the company was founded, until he retired as CEO in 2000and as chairman in 2001. Before joining Office Depot, Mr. Fuente served foreight years at Sherwin-Williams Company as president of its Paint Stores Groupand as director of Marketing for Gould, Inc. Mr. Fuente currently serves onthe boards of Office Depot, Ryder System, Inc. and Dick's Sporting Goods.
