Stonyfield makes its support clear on millions of yogurt cup lids thisfall.

"One lid is worth a thousand words -- in this case, 10 million, when youcount how many cups with the 'Stand Up to Cancer' message will be on shelves,"says Stonyfield Farm President and CE-Yo Gary Hirshberg.

Stonyfield was among the primary partners of SU2C televised special Sept.5 which featured Jennifer Aniston, Jack Black, Halle Berry, Keanu Reeves, andpresidential nominees John McCain and Barack Obama.

"Cancer touches each and every family in this country, including mine,"says Hirshberg. "We're motivated by a vision of a healthier world, and theways in which people can actively make a difference in their own lives and thelives of their loved ones."

One way to act is prevention. Some years ago, a research review(*)conducted by Environmental Working Group and Physicians for SocialResponsibility showed that the drinking water of more than fourteen millionAmericans was contaminated with five different agricultural chemicals known tocause nine different types of cancer. Another study(+) found in the urine ofchildren on conventional diets mean pesticide concentrations six times higherthan concentrations found in the urine of children on organic diets. Findingslike these support Stonyfield Farm's belief that all foods should be organic, says Hirshberg.

"Many people tell me organics are not yet proven," says Hirshberg. "I sayit's agricultural chemicals that aren't yet proven. For 90 years, we've beenconducting a pesticide experiment on our bodies and the planet."

The organic ingredients in Stonyfield's yogurts and milk are producedwithout the use of toxic and persistent pesticides, chemical fertilizers, synthetic growth hormones, and antibiotics. With its ingredient purchases,Stonyfield supports hundreds of organic farmers who keep more than 60,000acres in organic production.
