State's Aging Services Professionals to Highlight Gray Matters

SAN DIEGO, April 29 More than 600 practitioners from across the state will gather for Aging Services of California's Annual Conference on May 5-7 in San Diego to paint a bigger, more colorful picture of aging. Embracing the theme "The New Shade of Gray," dozens of educational sessions and 100-plus exhibitors will share innovative approaches to senior living and care.

"Our goal is to celebrate humankind's extraordinary achievement of increasing life expectancy," Jan Guiliano, events director for Aging Services, said, "by helping to ensure the long-life experience is healthy, secure, affordable and independent."

Among the topics covered at the annual event will be futuristic model homes that prolong independent living; innovative dementia care therapies; strategies for marketing to the "silent generation"; and changing cultures within long-term care communities.



Actress Anna Deavere Smith, will present the keynote address, "Thinking Beyond Intellect," in which she will share her thoughts on the need to live and die with grace. As a playwright and performance artist, Smith has been hailed by Newsweek as "the most exciting individual in American theater."
