Speaking of Women's Health Gives the Gift of Knowledge and Good Health This Mother's Day

CINCINNATI, May 1 As part of a national campaign toeducate women and their families about living healthier, Speaking of Women'sHealth will hold its annual Community Event at all Wal-Mart stores andSupercenters nationwide on Saturday, May 3 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. In time forMother's Day, this event honors the "Everyday Super Heroes" in our lives byproviding them with the gift of knowledge and good health.

Women attending the Speaking of Women's Health Community Event, one of thelargest single-day, free events focused on female health and wellness in theUnited States, will obtain vital information about good health and tips forstaying healthy. At the event, attendees will receive important healthscreenings, along with complimentary product samples from Speaking of Women'sHealth's national sponsors and a free book, A Few of Our Favorite Things. Thebook, which debuts at the May 3 Community Event, profiles successful femaleleaders and celebrities sharing some of their most precious belongings.

"Millions of women have already taken to heart what they have learned atthese events and made commitments to good health for themselves an theirfamilies," said Michael F. Roizen, M.D., noted Cleveland Clinic physician andco-author of YOU-The Owner's Manual, who is partnering with Speaking ofWomen's Health to encourage women to attend this important event. "Give thewomen in your life the gift of knowledge that will benefit their health andimprove their lives."

At the event, women are encouraged to "Take a Pledge for Better Health" tounderscore their commitment to living healthier lives. These pledges caninclude dietary and exercise changes, increasing awareness of family historyof certain diseases, and talking more openly with their physicians. SinceSpeaking of Women's Health launched the "Take a Pledge" program at itsCommunity Event at Wal-Mart more than four years ago, women have taken morethan 4.7 million pledges to improve their health by making one small change intheir daily lives.

Speaking of Women's Health was founded in 1995 as a one-day women's healthevent. The event has grown to become a national foundation with more than 50conferences and events in cities nationwide, including two nationalmulticultural health initiatives, Universal Sisters for women of color andHablando de la Salud de la Mujer for Hispanic women, and Growing Together,Connecting for Life for mothers and daughters.
