South Carolina Veterinary Specialists Installs State-of-the-Art Eklin Digital Practice(R) Technology
"We were founded in 1987 with the goals of providing the best care to ourpatients and outstanding specialty care support to the regional veterinarycommunity," said Randy Basinger, DVM, Diplomate ACVS, of Southern CarolinaVeterinary Specialists. "To this end, we chose Eklin's imaging, imagemanagement and practice management software solutions which will significantlyhelp us in meeting these goals. Eklin is recognized for its cutting edgetechnology and shares in our commitment to excellent patient care."
The new SCVS hospital complex includes surgery, physical therapy andrehabilitation, dermatology, internal medicine, oncology, neurology andcardiology services. In addition to digital radiology and ultrasound, SCVSalso provides CT, on-site Antech laboratory testing, laparoscopy, endoscopy,video-otoscopy and chemotherapy. All of the supporting imaging modalities andmedical reports are integrated within Eklin's VIA software and RapidPACS(TM)image management systems.
"It is important that we have complete access to a patient's record at thetouch of a button," said Brett Feder, DVM, Diplomate ACVIM, Southern CarolinaVeterinary Specialists. "The seamless integration of all our digitaltechnology into our practice management software and image management systemis critical to our ongoing ability to deliver the best care for our patients. Now we can electronically share patient information with other specialists andthe referring veterinarian quickly, which often results in faster treatmentand better patient outcomes."
Just as digital cameras have made photography easier and more efficient byeliminating film, DR systems provide the veterinarian with a radiographicimage that can be viewed immediately onsite or at a review workstation, including a high-resolution monitor, without the need for film development.Sophisticated ultrasound technology provides real-time images for observationof organs, such as the heart, other soft tissue and blood flow.
The digital images are stored, archived and retrieved electronicallythrough Eklin's RapidPACS system and integrated with the VIA medical recordand other reports. Based on DICOM standards, images from all compliant digitalimaging modalities (such as ultrasound or CT) can be integrated for acomprehensive view of a patient's imaging and medical records. Thisinformation can be electronically shared throughout SCVS' expanded facility orwith the referring veterinarian.
"SCVS' commitment to outstanding patient care is reflected in itsimplementation of leading digital technology," said Gary R. Cantu, CEO andchairman, Eklin. "We developed the Eklin Digital Practice to provide excellentimage quality, workflow efficiencies and data management in support ofsuperior patient care. We are delighted SCVS selected all three of our digitalsolutions and are pleased to be a part of this team."
