SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, Calif., May 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Human resources programs that enhance the quality and efficiency of hiring practices and promote staff understanding of the company's core operating philosophy captured Best of the Best Awards from the Assisted Living Federation of America (ALFA) for Silverado Senior Living. ALFA, the national association for assisted living providers, annually recognizes initiatives that advance excellence through innovative approaches. Silverado received the awards at ALFA's 2010 convention, which was held May 25 - 27.

Silverado was honored for "The Right Stuff," a multi-pronged program of resources, training, and information that allows administrators and supervisors throughout the multi-state organization to take a more direct hands-on role in the process.  Employee retention has risen significantly as a result.

Silverado also captured an award for a new program of training associates on its core operating philosophy of "LOVE is Greater than Fear."  The philosophy recognizes that fear is a natural feeling in confronting a difficult situation; it encourages employees to overcome that emotion and base their decisions and actions on the best interests of those involved.  The educational initiative demonstrates how the philosophy may be used in nine real-life situations.  Testing of employees who have undergone the training has demonstrated its very high level of effectiveness.

As a Best of the Best Award winner, Silverado Senior Living is among the organizations "that have put their imaginations to work to continually improve and streamline operations, enhance resident care and services, train and retain quality employees, and much more," says ALFA President and CEO Richard P. Grimes.  "Plus, the industry-wide benefit of the Best of the Best Awards is the program's ability to multiply excellence as these and other companies in senior living adopt these best practices as their own."

Silverado's initiatives were singled out from among the largest pool of contenders in the history of the Best of the Best Awards program, now in its fifth year.
