Sheridan College and Gourmetceuticals Offer Students First Ever Program to Develop Science You Can Eat

SHERIDAN and BIG HORN, Wyo., March 10 Sheridan College andGourmetceuticals, LLC, a company that markets organically derived andscientifically validated ingredients for use in foods and beverages, todayannounced a collaboration under which Gourmetceuticals will donate functionalfood ingredients to the college for a collaborative project between severaldepartments. Functional foods are the integration of fresh or processed foodsand beverages with ingredients that add specific health benefits. The twoingredients, GLPH-1(TM), an immune booster, and PPL-240(TM), an antioxidant,will be incorporated by students in the Culinary Arts program to develop newfood products.

The Gourmetceuticals collaboration is one part of a school initiative thatwill bring several education tracks together. Students in the Culinary Artsprogram will incorporate Gourmetceuticals' ingredients to create functionalfood products. The Meat and Food Science department will evaluate each productthrough a series of taste tests. Finally, the Economics students will use theresults from the taste tests to evaluate market potential, price points,supply and demand and potential profits for a company based on the foods.Students will complete the project on May 9 and will present their finalanalysis to Gourmetceuticals, the Forward Sheridan Leadership Council andrepresentatives of the college.
