Sharps Compliance Launches RxTakeAway(TM) for the Disposal of Unused Pharmaceuticals

HOUSTON, Sept. 22 Sharps Compliance Corp.(OTC Bulletin Board: SCOM) ("Sharps"), a leading provider of cost-effectivedisposal solutions for small quantity generators of medical waste, todaylaunched a new line of products, RxTakeAway(TM), specifically designed tosafely dispose of unused pharmaceuticals and medications. The product line is designed for individual consumers and communityfacilities, such as assisted living, long-term care, hospice and correctionaloperations, to dispose of unused medications, other than controlled substancesand consists of a variety of sizes of containers and return packaging withpre-paid postage to the Company's incineration facility. The product line isalso being marketed to national pharmacy chains as a part of "take back"programs to provide their customers with an alternative to disposing of unusedmedications by flushing or placing in the trash.

Approximately 4 billion prescriptions are filled in the United Statesannually, and it has been estimated that as much as 35% of the dispensedmedication goes unused, resulting in over 200 million pounds ofpharmaceuticals which can adversely affect the environment if disposed ofimproperly. Improperly disposed or diverted unused medications have also beenshown to increase the risk of accidental poisoning of citizens.
