Dr. James Hughes, a distinguished orthopedic surgeon and former chief ofstaff at the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC), will chair theOBS team. In addition to Hughes, the OBS team includes Majd Alwan, PhD, TonyaEstes, Kim Hoover, PhD, and Sheila D. Keller, PhD.
Hughes' clinical expertise, starting with medical education at the BowmanSchool of Medicine and coupled with orthopedic residency at John Hopkins, willcomplement the team of experts, whose extensive experience includes outcomesbased research, federal grant research and evaluation, aging-servicetechnology, and nursing home administration.
Alwan, who received his PhD in intelligent robotics from the ImperialCollege of Science, Technology and Medicine, is a noted researcher andauthority on aging-services technologies. Representing the AmericanAssociation of Homes and Services for the Aging (AAHSA) and their Center forAging Services Technologies (CAST), Alwan brings a wealth of knowledge inoutcome based studies and industry association independence.
Tonya Estes is a licensed nursing facility administrator, having consultedon myriad healthcare issues specializing in Medicare regulatory and compliancematters. She has served for 17 years as an administrator of assisted livingand nursing home facilities.
Hoover, also a registered nurse, and Keller both earned their PhD inclinical health sciences from UMMC. As research consultants, their expertiselies in the areas of outcomes based research, evaluation and research forfederally funded grant projects, and long-term care nursing workforce issues.
The Guardian House Total Alzheimer's Facility in Lake Charles, La., isSamarion's inaugural OBS partner site, and the company will soon announceadditional OBS partner sites.
