COLUMBIA, S.C., Nov. 20 BlueCross BlueShield of SouthCarolina announced today that it has been awarded Case ManagementAccreditation from URAC, a Washington, D.C.-based health care accreditingorganization that establishes quality standards for the health care industry.
URAC's Case Management Accreditation standards require companies toestablish a process to assess, plan and implement case managementinterventions.

BlueCross BlueShield's case management provides oversight of any illnessor complex medical situation by a nurse care manager to ensure that the memberreceives all necessary services. In the past year, the company provided casemanagement services to approximately 8,500 members.

The standards cover staff structure andqualifications, quality improvement, information management, oversight ofdelegated functions, ethics, complaints, and the case management process.
