SAFC Appoints New Vice President of Quality and Regulatory Affairs

ST. LOUIS, Mo., Aug. 5 SAFC(R), a member of theSigma-Aldrich Group (Nasdaq: SIAL), today announced the appointment of Mr. TomBeil as Vice President of Quality and Regulatory Affairs, effective July 21,2008. Mr. Beil, a quality systems and operations professional with nearly 25years experience, will lead SAFC's robust quality assurance team and overseeall aspects of the Company's regulatory and quality assurance programs. Hewill report to SAFC President, Dr. Frank Wicks, and to Mr. Rich Keffer,General Counsel and Secretary for Sigma-Aldrich(R) Corporation. Thisappointment is Mr. Beil's second tenure with Sigma-Aldrich, having spent 13years as Quality Systems Manager from 1986 to 1999.

Citing the ever-increasing importance that transparency, quality assuranceand regulatory compliance play in the pharmaceutical development andmanufacturing supply chain, Dr. Wicks states, "We are pleased to welcome Tomback to SAFC. Mr. Beil joins SAFC from Centocor/GBSC, where he was Senior Director ofSite Quality with responsibilities for quality assurance, quality control andquality systems. Prior to that appointment, Mr. Beil worked as AssociateDirector of Quality Assurance for Wyeth. In addition to his in-depth knowledgeof quality systems and the regulatory environment, he has experience inpetrochemical chemistry, research biology, cell culture and purchasing, andholds a Masters degree in Biology from Illinois State University at Normal,Illinois.
