LAKEWOOD, N.J., June 1, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Following extensive routine surveys by the NJ Department of Health and Senior Services and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), Harrogate, Inc., a Continuing Care Retirement Community located here, has achieved a perfect score for health inspections by these regulatory bodies. Based upon hundreds of regulatory standards, Harrogate received no deficiencies during this year's most recent inspection opting to be surveyed against higher "Advisory Standards" set forth by the Department of Health and Senior Services. These advisory standards, more stringent than the regular and mandatory standards, address many aspects of the operation including care of the residents and processes used to give that care, staff and resident safety and interaction, and the overall environment of the community. A team of trained inspectors, including registered nurses, a pharmacist, a dietitian and a building inspector visits health care centers unannounced at least annually to evaluate the personal care of residents, proper management of medications, safe food preparation and storage, clinical records and interview both residents and family members.

"We are proud to continue to meet and exceed the social and therapeutic needs of our residents as validated by this inspection," stated Donald A. Johansen, Executive Director.  "Our staff prides itself in providing a highly supportive and caring environment for our residents and their families."

The community has also received an overall 5-star designation, the highest rating on the scale, covering health inspections, staffing and quality measures by these agencies. Consumers can visit www.medicare.gov to find and compare nursing homes in their areas against the same measures. Additional helpful information regarding Medicare or Medicaid participation, organization ownership and number of beds can also be found.

Located in Ocean County, Harrogate is a not-for-profit Life Care Continuing Care Retirement Community which has served seniors seeking Independent Living options and Skilled Nursing services since 1988. The community consists of 275 Independent Living apartment homes and 68 Skilled Nursing beds offering the benefits of a rural setting within distance of Philadelphia, New York City, Atlantic City and the New Jersey shore.
