CHICAGO, Feb. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Having founded a formal organization in 2009, thirteen private-practice radiology groups across the country representing over 750 physicians today publicly announced the formation of Strategic Radiology (SR), an entity that embodies the vision and clinical goals of this network of like-minded regional medical practices, according to Van Moore, MD, Chairman of SR and president of Charlotte Radiology.

"The formation of this consortium is the outgrowth of a shared vision of the future of radiology," Moore said, adding, "physician-centric leadership and group collaboration will be critically important in facing upcoming challenges in radiology.  Through collaboration, we hope to find new ways to improve patient outcomes and clinical quality while controlling costs and utilization as radiology plays a key role in the integrated health delivery system of the future."

The thirteen founding SR groups are:  Advanced Diagnostic Imaging (Nashville, TN);  Advanced Radiology Services (Grand Rapids, MI);  Austin Radiological Association (Austin, TX);  Charlotte Radiology (Charlotte, NC);  Diversified Radiology (Denver, CO);  Inland Imaging (Spokane, WA);  Jefferson Radiology (Hartford, CT);  Mountain Medical Physician Specialists (Salt Lake City, UT);  Northwest Radiology (Indianapolis, IN);  Quantum Radiology (Atlanta, GA);  Radiology Ltd. (Tucson, AZ);  Riverside Radiology and Interventional Associates (Columbus, OH) and Southwest Diagnostic Imaging, Scottsdale Medical Imaging  Limited/Valley Radiologists Limited (Phoenix, AZ).

"Each of these groups has similar progressive viewpoints regarding those key differentiators that top-quality radiology practices have in common.  Primary among these is a view that delivering excellence in patient care is fundamental to achieving true distinction in an increasingly complex health care environment," Moore said.

According to the group's charter, Strategic Radiology is comprised of large, clinically-advanced groups that are geographically diverse, and are uniquely suited to a collaborative model in which data and best practices are shared, clinical practice information is interchanged, and certain practice expenses are consolidated, resulting in cost savings and economies of scale.  Patients and healthcare systems will benefit as SR intends to further expand access to radiology sub-specialization within member-groups and establish measurable standards for clinical quality.

"Our goal is for Strategic Radiology to deliver efficient world-class patient care through clinical and non-clinical collaboration," Moore said.
