Regent and the physician partners affiliated with West End Surgical are breaking ground on a new ambulatory surgery center, in early fall, 2016. The 15,000-square-foot multi-specialty ASC will feature three operating rooms and one procedure room.
"The move of higher acuity cases such as outpatient total joint replacement (OTJR) to outpatient centers is transforming the healthcare landscape and Regent has helped develop strategies for its 17 hospital partners and 23 surgery centers to adapt and thrive," said Regent CEO Chris Bishop. "Our partners at West End Surgical are joining us to do something that is among the first of its kind in the United States build a center of excellence designed specifically to enhance the quality of care, increase convenience and lower the cost of care of OTJR and spine."
The new center, Oregon Surgical Institute, is the center of the future to accommodate the special needs of these patients. In addition to more rooms and larger operating suites, the center incorporates wider halls and a rehabilitation unit to accommodate post-operative physical therapy requirements. It also features larger areas for equipment sterilization.
"As value-based care drives more surgery cases from hospitals to surgery centers, ASCs are playing a more significant role in the healthcare model of the future," stated Jim Ballard, M.D., of ROC Orthopedics, a total joints specialist and West End Surgical partner. "Our practice recognized this opportunity and launched an extensive search to find a surgery center management and development company that shared our vision."
Located at 9505 SW Nimbus Ave. in Beaverton, current specialties include orthopedics, hand, total joints, spine, interventional pain management, and orthobiologic therapies including platelet rich plasma (PRP), stem cells and amniotic membrane-derived growth factors.
"Regenerative medicine is my passion and along with a comprehensive suite of interventional pain management therapies, I will bring PRP and stem cell treatments to Oregon Surgical Institute to treat tendon, ligament, joint and spine pathology," explained Rahul N. Desai, M.D., a musculoskeletal and interventional radiologist. "The collaboration with West End Surgical makes sense, not only for those involved in the partnership with Regent but for those who will receive treatment from like-minded physicians dedicated to delivering patient-centered care."
"Regent brings clinical and business expertise in operating centers," added Ballard, "and we are already seeing how they have earned their reputation for fostering strong relationships with surgeons and hospitals. We look forward to opening our doors and bringing an exceptional patient care experience to our community."
Regent is currently partnering in more than 23 surgery centers in the United States and two in Europe.
