Recovery Resources Collaborates with Two Nonprofit Agencies for Children of Alcoholics Outreach Program

CLEVELAND, Sept. 7 Three local nonprofit alcohol and drugtreatment agencies have formed a collaborative to focus on the problems facedby the children of alcoholics and other drug addicts. Recovery Resources,Stella Maris and Community Challenge have banded together to produce a publicawareness campaign, provide training for counselors and stage educationalcommunity forums. The initiative is being funded through a $145,000 grant fromthe St. Luke's Foundation of Cleveland.

"The Children of Alcoholics Outreach Program will be the first majoreffort in Greater Cleveland to raise awareness of the problems faced by thechildren of alcoholics and other drug addicts and to help them," statedRecovery Resources president and chief executive officer Helen K. Jones. "Ourcollaboration with Stella Maris and Community Challenge and the generosity ofthe St. Luke's Foundation will make it possible for us to inform the public,train the professionals and help those who seek assistance."

Recovery Resources will lead the public awareness campaign and manage theoverall initiative; Stella Maris will provide clinical training to certifiedcounselors and other licensed professionals; and Community Challenge willconduct community forums. Cleveland-based Adcom Communications has beenselected to help develop and produce the public awareness campaign that willtarget the children of alcoholics as well as their families, friends andothers who are concerned for them.

The first community forum will be held on Tuesday, September 11, 2007 from7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Lutheran Hospital Castele Learning Center, 1730 West25 Street, Cleveland, Ohio 44113. Dr. Robert L. Smith, Ph.D. will conduct aworkshop on "Help and Hope for Children of Alcoholics." The workshop is freeand open to the public.

The grant for the Children of Alcoholics Outreach Program is one of tengrants totaling $1.4 million awarded by the St. Luke's Foundation of Clevelandto mark their ten year anniversary. All of the grants support programs thatalign with the Foundation's mission of improving and transforming the healthand well being of individuals, families and communities throughout GreaterCleveland.
