Ralphs to Invest $240,000 for Breast Cancer Awareness

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 3 Ralphs Grocery Company, in partnershipwith key suppliers, has committed $240,000 in donations for SouthernCalifornia breast cancer initiatives to support National Breast CancerAwareness month in October.

A two-week sales promotion currently running in all Ralphs stores supportsthe company's Giving Hope a Hand(R) campaign to increase breast cancerawareness. The promotion includes hundreds of popular items storewide, many ofwhich will feature exclusive, specially marked pink packaging.

In addition, Sherry Kovas, a cashier at Ralphs Indian Wells store and afour-year breast cancer survivor, will share her experience onspecially-marked products, including Kellogg's Special K protein bars.

"When I was diagnosed with breast cancer there were so many things Iwanted to know. What am I going to feel like? What will the treatment feellike? And nobody wanted to talk. I had to go through chemo and radiation. Itell anybody and everybody if you want to know what it's like or how it willfeel I can tell you," says Kovas, a Coachella Valley resident. "I want to doanything I can to help the women out there, to ease their minds and let themknow they can do this, they'll be okay. I want to tell them, 'It's not a deathsentence; you'll be okay. Yeah, you're going to feel a little sick but I cantell you what I did to get through it'."
