QBE the Americas Announces Head of Claims Appointment

NEW YORK, Sept. 15 QBE the Americas today announced theappointment of Dean Harring to the new position of U.S. head of claims. Hejoins the Company with over 30 years experience helping insurers manage losscosts, retain customers and produce higher net operating income.

Harring comes on board from GAB Robins North America Inc. where he servedas executive vice president, chief claims officer and chief operations officerfor the past two years. His prior experience includes senior managementpositions with several large insurers. In 2005, he founded and becameprincipal member of Claim Diagnostics LLC, a consulting firm specializing inproperty casualty insurance claims operations.

In his new role, Harring will oversee the claims operations for QBESpecialty, QBE the Americas' insurance partnership division; QBE Regional, theCompany's regional insurance division that includes General Casualty, Unigard,Farmers Union Insurance and QBE Agri Insurance; and QBE Reinsurance. Heassumes management responsibilities for the overall claims operations of QBEthe Americas and will create uniform standards and facilitate bettercommunication between its individual claims units.

"Dean joins QBE with a solid track record in claims and litigationmanagement and significant expertise in orchestrating operational successstories," said Peter Maloney, chief legal officer, QBE the Americas. "Theleadership and insight he brings from working in property casualty companiesof all sizes and varied environments will help QBE the Americas continue toprosper."

Harring is a graduate of Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine, theexecutive and management development program at the Kellogg School ofNorthwestern University and the advanced senior executive program at theWharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He has earned his CharteredProperty and Casualty (CPCU) and Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC)designations.

He has served as a board member of the National Insurance Crime Bureau,the American Insurance Association Claim Administration committee, BigBrothers and Big Sisters of Maryland, the Community Law Center and ArbitrationForums, Inc. He is a member of the faculty of the National Alliance forInsurance Education and Research.
