FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich., March 12 Many women are anxious to obtain the perfect body; often a fuller, rounder buttocks is desired. Silicone injections into the buttocks by non-physicians can lead to infections and disfigurement.

Dr. Michelle Hardaway, a board certified plastic surgeon, warns women to avoid having injections into the buttocks by non-medical personnel. The injections are not FDA approved The silicone that is used is often not medical grade. Infection and inflammation can occur.

Dr. Hardaway stated that she has evaluated patients that have had injections into the buttocks, breast and lips. The tissue often turns hard as time progresses. Patients often want the material removed, but it is very difficult and can cause disfigurement.

Dr. Hardaway states that patients should consider buttocks enhancements with fat injections. The fat can be liposuctioned and injected into the buttocks, giving a natural, fuller look.
