Prominent Advocate on HIV/AIDS Issues Joins Altarum Institute

WASHINGTON, April 25 Jesse Milan, Jr., prominent leaderand advocate on HIV/AIDS issues, has joined the nonprofit Altarum Institute asVice President and Director of its Community Health Systems Group.

"When we began the search for someone to lead our Community Health SystemsGroup, I hoped to find an individual with expertise in health issues, anetwork of contacts in the health community, and experience leading researchand consulting efforts," said Lincoln Smith, President and CEO of Altarum."With Jesse, we've found all three."

A person living with HIV for 26 years, Milan has spoken and writtenextensively on HIV/AIDS issues. From 2002-2007, he served as co-chair of theCenters for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)/Health Resources and ServicesAdministration (HRSA) Advisory Committee on HIV and STD Prevention andTreatments. He recently co-authored an article on a national HIV preventionplan.

Milan received the "Hero in the Struggle" award in 2008 from the BlackAIDS Institute. He was honored by HRSA in 2004 for "leading the national andinternational fight against HIV disease." Milan is past director of the Cityof Philadelphia AIDS Office, and served as president of the boards of ActionAIDS; the Philadelphia AIDS Consortium; and the National Episcopal AIDSCoalition. He is currently board chair of the Black AIDS Institute.

Prior to joining Altarum, Milan was Senior Principal for Health Policy andPromotion at SRA Constella Group, where he also served as Vice President forGlobal Health Convergence and Vice President for Health Communications. Milanserved for six years as Constella's Project Director for the CDC's NationalPrevention Information Network, the world's largest service for information onHIV/AIDS, STDs, and tuberculosis.

Milan is former Chief of Staff to the President of Temple University; wasa Deputy City Solicitor for the City of Philadelphia; and an associateattorney at the law firm of Morgan, Lewis & Bockius. A native of Kansas, Milanis a graduate of Princeton University and the New York University School ofLaw.
