SAN DIEGO, May 12 Profil(TM) Institute for Clinical Research, Inc. (PICR) today announced that president and CEO Dr. Marcus Hompesch is a finalist for the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year® 2010 Award in San Diego for the second year in a row. Award winners will be announced at a gala event on June 9, 2010 at the Hyatt La Jolla Aventine.

Dr. Hompesch is being recognized for his establishment and leadership of PICR, headquartered in Chula Vista, Calif. PICR has emerged as an industry leader in performing phase I and II clinical trials for pharmaceutical companies by honing their clinical expertise and specifically focusing on new treatments for diabetes and obesity.

Under Dr. Hompesch's leadership, the team at PICR has conducted more than 120 clinical studies investigating new drugs and devices since the company began operations in 2004 and has been involved with almost every clinically promising drug and device development in the diabetes arena.

Dr. Hompesch is one of three finalists in the Health Sciences category for the San Diego regional awards ceremony. The other finalists in this category are Jonathan Lim, President and CEO of Halozyme Therapeutics, and Scott Huennekens, President and CEO of Volcano Corporation. Past years' winners include Alex V. Lukianov of NuVasive, Inc. in 2009, Jay Flatley of Illumnia, Inc. in 2008 and Tina Nova of Genoptix, Inc. in 2007.
Now entering its 24th year, the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of The Year awards program recognizes entrepreneurs who demonstrate extraordinary success in the areas of innovation, financial performance and personal commitment to their businesses and communities.
Regional award winners will be eligible for consideration in the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of The Year national program. Winners in a number of national categories, as well as the overall national Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of The Year award winner, will be announced at the annual awards gala in Palm Springs, California in November.
