WASHINGTON, March 10, 2010 -- The National Business Group on Health, a non-profit group of 280 large U.S. employers, will host a press briefing on Thursday, March 18 at 10:00 a.m. at the National Press Club to discuss the results of a major study on hospital value for Medicare and commercial insurers in U.S. cities. Speakers at the press briefing will include Helen Darling, president of the National Business Group on Health, which commissioned the study, and Bruce Pyenson, a principal and consulting actuary at Milliman, Inc., who along with his colleagues conducted the study.

The study, "High Value for Hospital Care, High Value for All?" examined hospital utilization and inpatient costs for Medicare and commercial payers in 65 U.S. cities to determine whether hospitals can deliver high value for Medicare and commercial insurers, and also be profitable. The speakers will discuss the findings and the potential policy implications for reforming the health care payment system.
