Existing technologies for coronary artery disease focus on hard plaque that narrows the artery. Balloon angioplasty and traditional stents use high pressure to "crack" open hard plaque and scaffold the artery to improve diameter and restore blood flow.
Prescient's vProtect(TM) Luminal Shield is low-force and self-expanding, which creates less arterial injury, promotes healthy cell coverage and stabilizes vulnerable plaque, the cause of up to 85% of heart attack deaths.
"This unique device supports the body's natural healing process and promotes growth of endothelial cells over a vulnerable plaque lesion's thin fibrous cap to prevent it from rupturing," explained Bhavatharini Rajesh, Research Analyst, Frost & Sullivan.
