Led by Drs. Sugandhi Tharapel and Avirachan T. Tharapel, Genetics of Memphis is a leading Tennessee-based cytogenetics reference laboratory.
Cytogenetics is the study of chromosome structure and function in a cell during cell division. This branch of genetics serves as an important diagnostic tool for physicians monitoring high-risk pregnancies and reproductive concerns, delineating multiple congenital abnormalities and defining hematological disorders. Genetics of Memphis is also licensed by the State of Tennessee Board of Education as an accredited cytogenetics training facility. It is one of only five such schools in the United States.
