HARRISBURG, Pa., April 19 Kelly Young, a third-grade student at Wycallis Elementary School in Luzerne County, will receive a $1,000 educational bond for winning first-place in the Pennsylvania Dental Association's (PDA) 2010 National Children's Dental Health Month (NCDHM) statewide poster contest.

Kelly's poster will be reproduced as bookmarks, which will be distributed to all of Pennsylvania's public libraries. A PDA member dentist will present Kelly with her framed winning poster and bookmarks at an upcoming school awards assembly in June.

In addition to Kelly's prizes, Wycallis Elementary School and her teacher, Mrs. Kim Socash will each receive a $250 prize for participating in PDA's contest.
Her winning poster, "Clean Teeth are Out of this World," depicts a tooth flying over the earth on a rocket-propelled toothbrush. Vibrantly colored and skillfully drawn, Kelly demonstrated that she truly understands the importance of good oral health.
"Protect Your Teeth" was the theme of second-place winner Brandon Cromer's poster. Brandon, a third-grade student at Leo E. Solomon - Plains Elementary in Luzerne County, painted three teeth holding umbrellas in a downpour of candy. Brandon will receive a $500 educational savings bond.
Third-place winner, Claire Valentine chose an Olympic theme for her poster, "Brush Like a Champion," which shows toothpaste, floss and a toothbrush on a podium winning gold, silver and bronze medals. Claire, a third-grader at Mars Elementary School in Butler County, will receive a $250 educational savings bond.
The winning posters were selected from more than 60 well-designed and creative regional finalist posters submitted to the PDA Central Office for final judging. The contest was open to third-grade students in any Pennsylvania public, private or charter school. It is estimated that 20,000 third-grade students across Pennsylvania participated in this year's poster contest.
