PacketSure DLP 8.5 provides endpoint protection for external devices, secures both the private content and the protocols running on a network, and ensures PII/PHI Compliance for HIPAA/HITECH, GLB, SOX, and PCI

DES MOINES, Iowa, May 23, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Palisade Systems, the leader in Data Loss Prevention

(DLP) solutions for mid-size and small businesses, announced today the immediate availability of PacketSure DLP 8.5, a comprehensive data loss prevention solution that safeguards the enterprise network while also protecting confidential information. With PacketSure DLP 8.5, organizations are now able to guard and monitor the perimeter of their enterprise networks for data leaks and also to protect themselves from data leaks at the endpoint, preventing their confidential information from being copied to CDs, DVDs, and USB drives or over FireWire.

Notably, PacketSure 8.5 is the only DLP solution that secures both the private content and the protocols running on a network. By securing the private content and protocols running on the network, PacketSure now enables organizations to more closely manage and limit how data can be inadvertently shared such as with peer-to-peer or unapproved instant messaging applications that can hide transfers in unmanaged, possibly encrypted protocols.

Palisade built PacketSure with the features and full-functionality required by mid-sized and small firms to quickly and cost-effectively meet compliance requirements for PII/PHI for HIPAA/HITECH, GLB, SOX and PCI DSS, making it an ideal solution for thousands of healthcare and financial service businesses. To further meet the needs of this market, PacketSure is available as a virtual image, an easy-to-install appliance, as a service from Palisade's Managed Service Provider (MSP) partners or the users' own trusted service provider.

"Now more than ever, mid-size and small businesses are realizing how important it is that they ensure they are safeguarding their confidential information, including social security numbers, credit card numbers, health and financial information, from leaving their organizations. Failing to secure their networks from data leaks can potentially lead to catastrophic fines that can cripple them financially," said Spencer Snedecor, CEO of Palisade. "Our core, patented technology allows us to deliver a full-featured affordable solution with pricing and deployment options ideal for our customers across key markets including healthcare and financial services. We offer a risk assessment for prospects so they can see how easy it is to protect their data, and their business."

PacketSure 8.5 analyzes files and data being transferred on a network in real time, such as users emailing unencrypted credit card numbers over the public Internet, sending Social Security numbers, using Internet file transfers to share protected medical records and more. PacketSure identifies this type of data, blocks and quarantines it for later inspection, or sends it to a third party encryption engine. In addition, PacketSure's Web filtering controls user access to sensitive sites organized in 40 categories, including pornography, online shopping, crime, and chat rooms. Organizations can either log user access to these sites or block access entirely.

PacketSure 8.5 Key Features and Benefits

Packetsure 8.5 adds a number of new tools to manage sensitive data including:

  • Endpoint protection. PacketSure now monitors and blocks files with content violations being copied to external devices including CDs or DVDs, USB drives, and FireWire (a high performance serial bus used to connect devices to a computer).
  • SafeSearch. SafeSearch excludes adult oriented content from the search results for specific search engines. Enabling SafeSearch also allows access to these SafeSearch sites even when the search engine web category is set to block.
  • Landing Pages. PacketSure's top navigation tabs now open on a landing page that contains icons for the features that are available. Landing pages can be customized which in turn creates easier navigation.
  • Centralized management and reporting system (CMS) functionality enhancements. PacketSure appliances connected to a CMS can now receive URL list and software updates straight from the CMS rather than in a separate download from the Palisade servers thereby making updating faster and easier and reduces the impact on the organization's network.

Delivering Immediate ROI

Current laws require companies to inform customers about data leaks. PacketSure ensures sensitive data is properly identified and protected, saving companies tens of thousands in potential fines caused by data leaks. Installing PacketSure resulted in an immediate return on investment for Lutheran Life Communities, a mid-sized healthcare provider. In a recent 'DLP Expert Panel Webinar' Richard DeRoche, IT director of Lutheran Life Communities, explained how Lutheran met HIPAA/HITECH and other regulatory data issues with PacketSure, thereby saving them over $250,000 in potential fines by identifying 2,417 violations.
