Malnutrition plays a role in more than half the deaths of childrenworldwide. About 6 million children under 5 die each year of causes associatedwith malnutrition, which weakens immunity and leaves them vulnerable toinfection and disease. And overnutrition, which contributes to obesity and haslong been a problem in developed countries, is now a problem in manydeveloping countries as well.
