Nation's Minority College Students Know Little About America's History andInstitutions
As the country prepares to observe Dr. Martin Luther King, Junior'sBirthday and Black History Month, new data reveals that our nation's collegesare failing to teach their minority students about America's history andinstitutions. According to the data from the Intercollegiate StudiesInstitute, minority college seniors scored an average of48-point-two percent on a civic literacy exam, or just eight-tenths of a pointhigher than the average for minority freshmen who took the same exam. Minoritystudents at Ivy League schools fared even worse, with graduating seniorsscoring lower than incoming freshmen.
