After determining that state license numbers would be required to performadequate linking to the NPI data and that obtaining this information in areasonable and timely manner from hundreds of different primary sources wasextremely challenging, PDX-NHIN selected HMS as its preferred provider of theprescriber database due to the breadth, depth and accuracy of the HMSPrescriber Master File(TM) and HMS's recognized leadership position inpharmacy.

The HMS Prescriber Master File(TM) will be provided through NHIN in amanner that will allow PDX customers to access this data using PDX DistributedProcessing, a feature of the PDX Pharmacy System that allows access todatabases in real-time. Pharmacies can then select and add missing prescriberrecords to their local database or select and update missing information onprescriber records on their local systems.

Pharmacy and PBM customers should contact Craig Ford with HMS for detailsconcerning licensing the HMS Prescriber Master File(TM). As PDX customerscontract with HMS for the HMS Prescriber Master File(TM), NHIN will implementthe Prescriber file in a PDX-accessible format for those customers.
