OKLAHOMA CITY, July 12 For the second consecutive year, Orthocare Innovations has been selected by R&D Magazine to receive its prestigious R&D 100 Award. Orthocare Innovations received this award for its Galileo(TM) system, a novel approach for measuring, analyzing and reporting the function of persons who have experienced lower limb loss, injury or disease.

Galileo(TM) provides clinicians with measurable, objective data to assess the function of persons who utilize prosthetic or orthotic devices. The system combines novel analytical models and algorithms with Orthocare's StepWatch(TM) technology. StepWatch(TM) has been established in over 80 peer-reviewed articles as the gold standard in physical activity monitoring.

Galileo(TM) represents a considerable improvement over traditional methods for determining patient function, traditionally a highly subjective process. The system was developed to better assess patient function to assist clinicians in better matching prosthetic technologies to patients and in securing authorization and payment for clinical care by third-party payers.

"Prosthetics technology has become more advanced, offering persons who have lost limbs the opportunity to return to highly active and productive lives," commented Orthocare Innovations CEO Doug McCormack. "Payers, however, are increasingly requiring better documentation and objective activity data prior to approving advanced technology devices. Galileo(TM) is consistent with the demand for evidence-based practice and will both support clinician decision making and ensure that patients receive appropriate care."

Now in its 48th year, the R&D 100 Awards recognize the 100 most technologically significant products introduced over the past year. Winning products are selected by an independent judging panel and the editors of R&D Magazine. 2010 award recipients also include IBM, Siemens, Intel Corp., Toyota and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Lincoln Lab. A full list of this year's winners is available at www.rdmag.com.
